Class #92 Aquacise Friday 8:00 a.m. (Alice)
Every now and then professional groups will use the PAC pools for special certification sessions. This morning's Aquacise class took place along side an FBI SWAT team who were using the PAC 8-lane pool for certification testing. Seeing as I was the lone male participant in Aquacise this morning, I was amazed how much trouble my co-participants had focusing on exercise today in lieu of all the SWAT team excitement on deck. Today also happened to be the one-year anniversary of Michael Jackson's passing and our Aquacise instructor extraordinaire, Alice McClenahan, had MJ tunes playing throughout the entire one-hour class. I could have sworn I saw some of the SWAT agents trying not to dance.....Lots of interesting distractions during this morning's water exercise experience!  We soldiered forward despite all the activity around us. Alice runs a tight Aquacise ship and I always enjoy the higher intensity level she brings to class. She's not shy about challenging us and we worked hard through 30 minutes of non-stop cardio. Alice shared an interesting water exercise fact during class this morning - water provides 12 times the resistance of air. So if you think water exercise is an "easy" class, come give it a try. I'm convinced it's one of the best exercise options available for any fitness level.
After we finished the cardio segment, Alice had us move down to the deeper end of the pool to work on some stationary exercise with the aid of flotation equipment - either a water noodle or a flotation belt. This segment consisted of hard/easy intervals with limited recovery time. As class drew to a close, we moved back to shallow waters and did some easy cool-down stretching. Quite the unique Aquacise class this morning! We had a great time and Alice is a fun, hard-working instructor. This morning's PAC gift card winner is Jeanne Brady. Congratulations Jeanne!
