Class #103 Cardio Pumpin’ Friday 8:30 a.m. (Ingrid)
This morning's Cardio Pumpin' class is actually a "repeat" session for me, sort of. During the early weeks of my Find Fred Group Exercise project, I attended this class when Karen Ryan was substituting for Ingrid Rinck. I really enjoyed Karen's take on the traditional step aerobics format and I've heard Ingrid Rinck also delivers an awesome version as well. I need to add a couple extra classes to hit my goal of 110 due to some schedule changes and this is one I didn't want to miss. As mentioned above, this is a step aerobics class and as I arrived in Studio 1, a large group was gathering steps, risers, and hand weights. Ingrid always packs ‘em in and this morning was no different. I was lucky to secure a bit of studio real estate in one of the far corners with just enough room to grapevine my heart out, should the opportunity present itself. Although step aerobics has been around for decades, Ingrid puts a fun, contemporary twist on this time-honored group exercise format. Her music selection is always cutting-edge, modern, with plenty of step-friendly beats and tempo changes. This is definitely a high octane class and I noticed most of my classmates were seasoned steppers. My step technique has come a long way in the past couple of months and I did a decent job of staying on cue this morning. Things got a little "iffy" when Ingrid threw in some more complex combinations. It took me a while to get the combos down, but I usually had the hang of it when it was time to move on to another combination group. Ingrid included some upper body hand weight exercises in her step format. I played it safe and went with light weights and we did enough repetitions to wear out my upper body muscle groups. Targeted muscle groups included biceps, triceps, and shoulders - all this while continued executing step moves. Combining the upper body hand weight exercises with step aerobics had me working at a high exercising heart rate. Ingrid gave us enough recovery time between muscle groups and I was pretty well spent when it came time for warm-down.
This was a 50-minute class this morning and not a second was wasted. Thanks Ingrid - this was an excellent modern take on an old group exercise classic. This morning's PAC gift card winner is Terry Mantle. Congratulations Terry!
