Class #52 Aquacise Wednesday 6:00 p.m. (Alice)
After a long day of work, there's better than jumping in one of the PAC swimming pools for a little water exercise. This evening's class was my first Aquacise experience in our six-lane pool. During our busy summer swimming season, the Aquacise class schedule utilizes both pools to accommodate our swim team and swim lesson programs. Our great Aquacise instructors and participants are fantastic when it comes to going with the flow. These are the same hearty water exercisers who brave our cold winter weather and they are truly committed to their Aquacise classes. This evening we have 10 Aquacisers present and our fearless leader is Alice McClenahan. Alice is the newest member of our PAC Aquacise instructor team, but she's been involved with PAC aquatics over the years as a member and swim team parent. Alice is originally from Buffalo, New York and she was a competitive swimmer for 15 years, including swimming for the West Virginia University varsity team. She's also served as a swim team coach for five years. Alice has a great philosophy: the beauty of water exercise is its accessibility for all age and ability levels. She tells her participants the hardest part of water exercise is getting off the couch and jumping in the pool (especially when it's 21 degrees outside!). Once you're in the water, it's all about fun and feeling good in the water.
Alice brings an enthusiastic energy to our class this evening. It was busy around the pool area, but Alice kept us focused on having fun and the exercise tasks at hand. We did about 40 solid minutes of cardio work, including fast-paced interval exercises alternating with adequate recovery time. Alice did super job with her cues and verbal instructions. She was in the water, working hard with the rest of the class. The final 10 minutes of class included some stretching and balance exercises. I will tell anyone who will listen, our Aquacise classes will challenge all ability and fitness levels. I pushed some of the intervals pretty hard this evening and I felt pleasantly spent as we concluded class. It was a beautiful Louisiana evening and as the class was coming to an end, a peaceful calm fell over the pool area. What a great way to finish my day. Thanks Alice! The PAC gift card winner for this evening's class is Karen Harrison.
