The Pelican Running Club is a year-round running program entering its fifth season of training in preparation for the 2011 Rock & Roll Mardi Gras Marathon & ½ Marathon to be held on Sunday February 13, 2011 in New Orleans. The heart and soul of the program is the group training run on Saturday mornings. The program is designed for athletes of all ability levels with an emphasis on assisting first-time marathoners and half-marathoners prepare in a safe and supportive system.
The Pelican Running Club includes the following:
Saturday morning group training runs. We start at the Mandeville Trailhead on the Tammany Trace at 7:00 a.m.
Weekly running club e-mails that will include information on healthy training, injury prevention, nutrition for endurance athletes, running gear, and much more
The marathon training schedule starts on Monday September 13, 2010; the half-marathon training schedule begins on Monday October 4, 2010.
If you're new to marathon or half-marathon training, there are six-week "build-up" training schedules available. The "build-up" schedules provide new runners with a gradual preparation period preceding the regular training programs beginning in September in October.

During the spring and summer months the program emphasis will shift to relaxed Saturday morning group training runs, the focus on maintaining base conditioning
